Defining Infertility

I’ve thought constantly over the last few years about the resources I would’ve found most beneficial when I was diagnosed with Infertility.

Defining Infertility - A Visual Dictionary is, to me, one of the most important ones.

Do you know how much time I spent on google at all hours of the day and night during my first few months living with Infertility? I remember vividly leaving the first appointment with my RE, and feeling immensely overwhelmed. Here was I - an educated person, someone with a Masters in Public Health and self defined as “extremely health literate” and still - I was lost in a sea of acronyms, thinking about tests and procedures and medications I’d never heard of before and trying to keep everything straight in my head.

One of the first things I created after founding Heartfelt Beginnings was the Infertility Acronyms 101 Guide. In truth, Infertility is hard enough, so I didn’t want people to feel lost in the conversation! This free guide to decoding the acronyms surrounding TTC & Infertility was my hope at preventing anyone else to feel like their head was swimming in the same way I had before. As the guide got more traction, I kept hearing the same feedback:

There are so many terms in here I’ve never heard before.

It would be really great if they were all defined in one place.

So, I got to work.

Defining Infertility was written by a real IVF patient (past + present), who has a strong background in the health sciences and has immense experience navigating complicated terms and normalizing the conversations around Infertility. Each term is categorized, defined in what I hope is easy to understand snippets, and I’ve included tips, tricks, and notes as often as I could think of them! This book is written for anyone - any gender, and any orientation, who is trying to conceive or on the journey to become a parent.

There’s nothing in this world like feeling empowered, and I’ve noticed that many people struggling to get pregnant feel anything but empowered. They feel discouraged, lost, broken, overwhelmed, exhausted, and alone.

This book can change some of that.

By arming yourself with information and taking control of your experiences, you will feel educated, resourceful, and empowered to advocate for yourself, ask questions, and find the support you need.
